Hyperion Trio

The Hyperion Trio was founded in 1999 and has gone on to earn an outstanding reputation in Germany and the international music world and to perform an extraordinarily broad repertoire. In its programs and the concert cycles designed for the cities of Hanover, Magdeburg, and Leipzig the Hyperion Trio has performed more than two hundred works, some of them as premieres or in programs in which great masterpieces are heard together with the music of more less known composers whose works have yet to be rediscovered.

The Hyperion Trio triumphed at the International Johannes Brahms Chamber Music Competition in 2001 and presented the first Eugène d’Albert Seminar at the Villa Teresa in Coswig in 2006. The members of the Hyperion Trio were invited to numerous festivals, including the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival, Sommerliche Musiktage Hitzacker, Schumann Festival Weeks in Leipzig and Bonn, Mendelssohn-Tage in Leipzig, Max-Reger-Tage at Weiden, Göttingen Handel Festival, Frankfurt Festival, and festivals of the Amici della Musica in Florence and the Accademia Chigiana in Siena.

The members of the Hyperion Trio have been teaching at the Music Academies of Cologne, Hanover and Leipzig and gave international master classes. They are regularly invited to take part as jury members of the International Johannes Brahms competition at Pörtschach, Austria, since 2013.

The Hyperion Trio recorded masterpieces by Franz Schubert, Felix Mendelssohn, Johannes Brahms, Robert and Clara Schumann, Franz Liszt and Max Reger as well as a great number of less known pieces by Emil Hartmann, Iwan Knorr, Paul Graener and Atli Heimir Sveinsson. Atli Heimir Sveinsson subsequently dedicated his third piano trio, a work composed in 2008, to the Hyperion Trio, and the ensemble released a recording of the same composer’s piano trios on cpo in 2009.
